Linux for Bharat Swabhimaan

I am here to give a suggestion to the people associated with Bharat Swabhiman Andolan. Computers are fast becoming an essential part of our daily lives. Unfortunately we do not have the adequate computer penetration and awareness in most parts of our country. I am talking on behalf of the majority of the population which could be benefited tremendously in numerous ways if cost effective computers/ internet connections were provided in regional languages throughout the nation. The major roadblock in spreading computer literacy is the cost of the computer itself. The cost of a computer and computing can be substantially reduced by promoting Linux, and Open source freeware applications throughout the country. Anyone familiar with Open Source movement will understand what I mean. As Bharat Swabhiman is touching many critical issues that this country faces and the solutions that is needs. I would suggest venerable Swami Ramdeoji to take up promotion of Linux and Open source software with emphasis on indian languages so that technologically we do not get tethered to Privately owned companies, (or Videshi company) if you like. Today majority of computers in India and all over the world run on Windows , which is a privately owned product. To be more independent of videshi companies we must promote Linux (which is an Open Source and Free operating system) and other productivity software that will replace the expensive commercial software. I would love to see a thorough discussion why Linux is not on most of the computers in India even after the previous President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, firmly refused Bill Gates to include the windows os in critical government departments such as Defense. I do not understand why the science and technology ministry of India not promoting Linux as the preferred operating system for Indian masses? Is there any doubt in the usefulness of the software or is it a criminal negligence of the peoples needs on part of our policy makers. The people working in the field of Open Source movement continue keeping this flame alive and burning, but unless it reaches to the masses and in in educational institutions as part of government backed policy, India is unlikely to achieve its full potential in the field of computer literacy. I hope it is the time to spread the flame and take it to every corner of this nation

He says that “280 lac crore” of Indian money is deposited in swiss banks.
It can be used for ‘taxless’ budget for 30 years.
It can give 60 crore jobs to all Indians.
From any village to Delhi 4 lane roads.
Forever free power suply to more than 500 social projects.
Every citizen can get monthly 2000/- for 60 yrs.
No need of World Bank & IMF loan.

I do not agree with Adarsh , Linux is very much user friendly. Its installation is also very easy. The common works which are performed by window are easily available in linux and do better then window. It is free of cost. window’s monopoly is only due to that people do not know more about Linux so they have hesitation. Any new user of computer will take same time to learn something on window as well as on linux.

    Hi,

We are promoting Linux to academia and corporates for more than 5 years in our region. We strongly believe, if India has to become IT Super Power, it has to turn up to Linux, a free and freedom based operating system.

Why pay millions of dollars on licensing fee to MNCs, when you have an ultimate powerful and super stable operating system in your own home ?

Please join our movement at http://linuxindore.com

We would also like to support Bharat Swabhiman by providing our IT services for FREE.

    Please let us know.

There are few people who have worked on Indian language support for computers. You will be surprised to know that there is one organization who has developed C programming in Hindi. You can visit http://hindawi.in/ for more information on this subject. Bharat Swabhiman may come to support them. There are free Linux distributions available to download Which support indian languages. One such OS is IndLinux Rangoli. You can download it from here http://www.indlinux.org/wiki/index.php/Downloads.

linux based ubuntu and fedora are excellent. but due to there less demand most pc hardware vendors are supporting only windows.
If government will give tax benefits to hardware vendors if they provide linux drivers it will be very nice. so baba ramdevji ask govt. for this.
also ubuntu is community oriented os but very little indian community is supporting it. thats why this os has poor support for hindi and other indian languages. baba ramdev must have to provide fund for ubuntu os to improve language support because in india 85% people are using pirated windows. original is very costly. help linux. join linux. ask pc vendors to provide linux compitable pcs.

  21. Shrish Jain says:

Actually computer is not an Indian thing. It is a curse to Human race. Like TV, computer is doing bad things to Indian youth and kids. If computer is to be used, it should be used only for the purposes where it is beneficial. Computer should be limited to only organizations and not to the masses.

Because of TV and computer, we do our entertainment and fill our needs through them and we do not need our neighbors. In ancient Indian culture, there used to be a strong bond between neighbors. TV and computer are big criminals to devastate that culture.

In Indian culture, we used to take knowledge from our teachers, parents, friends and society. And we used to have respect for them.

Now since we have computers, we get all the knowledge/information from computer, and we have less value for our teachers and parents. This way computer in the future will break the backbone of respect system in our society.

In earlier system, parents or teachers used to tell us knowledge acording to our Prakriti(nature). And used to tell us the right thing specific to us. Now one can get all good and bad things from internet, and many times people divert towards more bad than good. Therefore computer is a bad thing for a healthy society.

I want to say one thing only about Ubuntu OS, this is a very simple Operating System as compare Microsoft Windows XP and other OS.

I am using Ubuntu from last a year and found this very simple in operating and very easy in installation, all necessary softwares are available from download and we can get the information for all the softwares by using the Synaptic Packager Manager in Ubuntu OS.

We can replace all other OS by using the Linux that is free.

  26. Mahesh says:

I would like to propose similar thing but bit different.

First of all I wanted to tell that why people are so crazy about using Windows OS? Because of its simplicity, look and feel, Desktop interface or Graphical interface and wide verity of applications importantly Microsoft Office.

If any one have idea of Ubuntu? This is a free Open Source Operating System which is a Graphical User Interface, Desktop Look and feel and pacing very fast to give all type of application which generally look in out day to day life. Also Sun Microsystem’s Open Sourced Open Office is similar benefit as Microsoft Office. I know it cant replace same smoothness of Microsoft Office, but it still can do our work.

I am not opposing or objecting Linux, but my point is, Ubuntu is a OS which is very similar to Windows feel. And internally it is also Linux code base.

And the biggest thing we need is strong Technical Person who can contribute us to develop multi-language interface for Ubuntu, particularly for Indian language.

Hope everyone can think about what I said.
